Hannah Mims named Johnston Development Corp. Scholarship Winner

April 19, 2025 By JohnDevCorp

The award is presented each year to a high school student exemplifying outstanding community service. It is awarded in the run-up to the Johnston Peach Blossom Festival, sponsored by the JDC. This year’s Festival is May 3.

This year’s recipient of the Johnston Development Corporation (JDC) Scholarship is Hannah Mims, a Strom Thurmond High School Senior.

Hannah is an active high school student who reaches out to her community in many ways.

Hannah has been volunteering in school, church, and community activities. She’s helped with the Feeding the Homeless Ministry, the Christmas Outreach Ministry, and a volunteer with Toys for Toys.

Hannah conducted a Science project with elementary school students; she mentored at the Little Rebel Cheer Camp; Youth Cheer Coach assistant for recreational department; and was on Bettis Recreation’s Support Staff. In the political arena, she handed out campaign material for local candidates and was an election poll worker.

Hannah was a host for Strom Thurmond H.S. Senior activities on football field, worked the DECA school store, concession stand volunteer, and an elementary school dance chaperone. At church, she is a church usher, Youth Choir leader, and cleans graves at the family church.

In the community, she has been an attendant at the 5K Shamrock Run Game, a volunteer at Edgefield Nursing Home and Hospital, and Ronald McDonald House Drive organizer. Hannah also ushered for Pinckney Sisters Gospel Singers and worked their concession stand.

The volunteering opportunities that Hannah has been involved in are molding her into the civic leader God wants us all to be.

She plans to attend the University of South Carolina.
