A community-wide Christmas Holiday Season kickoff will be held in Johnston the Monday after Thanksgiving, December 2, 5:30-7 p.m., in downtown Johnston.
The event is sponsored by the Johnston Development Corporation.
The annual Christmas Tree Lighting Program will be held at the Municipal Parking Lot. The Program will feature performances by the Johnston Elementary School Chorus and Johnston-Edgefield-Trenton Middle School Chorus. Santa will also be attending, so bring a camera if you want to get a picture.
In addition, the program will consist of the reading of The Christmas Story and the lighting of the Town Christmas Tree by Johnston Mayor Thomas Holmes at 6 p.m.
The event will also feature several food vendors as well as crafters.
The event is free and open to all. The Johnston Development Corporation, a non-profit volunteer organization that has helped the Town of Johnston grow in many ways for nearly 40 years, works to aid the community in areas such as economic development, education, recreation, historic preservation, tourism, scientific and cultural opportunities, and continued promotion of Johnston.
